Wanting to join in on all the houseplant fun? But uh-oh... you can’t be trusted to water. Well, not to worry! We’ve put together a list of 8 Easy-Care houseplants that you can basically forget about.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera plants need very little water, because they are in the succulent family. Aloe plants prefer bright, but indirect sunlight, especially in cooler temperatures. Aloe plants are also useful, their sap can be used as a skin moisturizer to heal minor cuts and ease sunburns, just don’t remove more than 1⁄3 of the plant at a time.
Cast Iron
The Cast Iron literally got its name from surviving in the worst conditions. The leaves are about 4 inches wide and two feet long coming to a point. It grows in a clump, can sometimes flower indoors, and prefers low light.
Holiday Cactus
A part of the cactus family, you can almost ignore this plant and it will thrive. The holiday cactus produces a deep pink, red, or white flower in the early winter seasons. It can handle low light, but will produce more flowers in bright light. To keep a full and bushy plant, prune after it’s blooming cycle.
Jade Plant
With it’s thick and shiny leaves, Jade plants are one of the most popular indoor plants. Jade plants need plenty of sunlight, place it in the brightest room in your home. The tricky part with jade plants is watering; too much water will cause root rot, too little water will result in leaves dropping. Let the soil dry out completely before giving it more, but be careful not to let it sit dry and thirsty for too long.
Snake Plant
Snake plants have tall pointed leaves and can last a very long time. Very tolerant of lowlight and prefers to be watered sparingly to avoid rot.
Peace Lily
One of my personal favorites. The Peace Lily produces a striking white flower with a thin white leaf-like structure around it that will turn yellow or green as it ages. It prefers warm humid conditions, but will grow comfortably in your home if you don’t place it near drafts or in rooms that are unheated for long periods of time.
Pathos
One the easiest houseplants and almost impossible to kill, yay! Pathos are trailing plants and can grow up to 10 feet or more! Pathos plants like to dry out between watering’s, but if left dry for too long leaves will wilt and eventually dry and fall. They are tolerant to all types of light, even artificial office lights.
Spider Plant
Spider plants will grow 2 – 2.5 feet wide and 2-3 feet long. Their roots tend to fill a spot so repotting every couple of years may be necessary. Spider plants also keep giving – you can find them with babies dangling, and when those babies start to form roots you can remove them to propagate more plants. Prefers bright, indirect light and moderate watering.
