Uh, oh... it’s New Year's resolution time again. Time to set some goals and forget about them 2 months later... well not this year! Here are some tips that help me set, and KEEP my goals all year long.
1. Goals need to be YOURS
We have lots of labels in life, and pleasing others might feel like the right thing to do. You will not be able to achieve your goals if they are not yours. Achievement is tough and you have to have drive and vision to keep going. You deserve it.
2. Write it or lose it
Writing your goals is a great exercise to revise them as you go and in addition, it is a great way to keep yourself focused, accountable, and proactive.
3. Deadlines make it real
Staying on track with your goals will feel like a marathon and you might feel like giving up, but if you will not have a deadline in mind it will be more like a treadmill. Set a date and mind to work towards and this brings us to the next point.
4. Start with the end in mind
If it is a trip you’d like to take, figure out how much it is in total, the next step will be to figure out how much a month you can set aside and it will help you understand when you’ll be able to accomplish it.
Have an extra Holiday weight to lose? Savings account to grow? Home project to finish? Start with the end in mind and work the math backward.
5. Smaller wins will keep you moving forward
Dream Big, start strong, and break your goals to the “bite size pieces”. When you hit your smaller target it will help you feel accomplished and will recharge you for your next step.
Remember: progress is progress, if you miss for a couple weeks, that’s okay, just pick back up again. We can’t wait to see what you achieve this year!
