Moving into a new home is all about organizing and preparing for every possible hiccup that may occur during the transition into your new life. Down to every list, appointment, and left sock that gets lost in the move, transferring your entire life into a new living space is always a major interruption from your daily grind! As with all things real estate, the absolute best thing that you can do is to BE PREPARED! Here’s a tip from us at the Brandon and Lana Team: make a list of important phone numbers in your new location BEFORE you make the move. And since we’re the real estate experts here, we’ve got some ideas for which important phone numbers to add to your list.

First thing’s first: the police department/fire department. Any emergency situation calls for a ring to 911. However, there are many non-emergency scenarios in which the local police department or fire department direct line are the more effective dialing option. May you have questions about ordinances, want to report something in the neighborhood, or any other request for help that is a non-emergency, these direct numbers will be your best option.
The next number on our tiers of importance is the doctor’s office and/or the nearest hospital. The best and worst thing about life is that you never know what could happen! In case you or any of your family members have a sudden illness or medical advice, make sure you have the number of your family physician on hand.
Most folks don’t consider needing a dentist’s phone number on hand but dental disasters happen more often than most of us think. A chipped tooth, an aching cavity, or a braces bracket that needs to be reattached are all cases that should be dealt with sooner than later.
Add your new dentist to your list of phone numbers and you and your kids will thank us later!
Two words: poison control! Approximately 24 million Americans call their local poison control centers every year. With so many harmful chemicals in households, it’s imperative to add the nearest poison control center’s phone number to your list of phone numbers.
If you have pets in your household then the veterinarian’s phone number is another very important contact to your rolodex of importance. Just like us, pets can accrue dental problems, general medical problems, or need poison control help at any moment. Make sure you take care of your pets and know where to get help for them should they ever need it!
New school district, new school, new classmates, new teachers. These are all new and exciting changes that are also reasons to have your children’s new school phone number as your family adjusts to your new life. Schools have your number in case they need to contact you; you should do the same!
Identifying a new plumber before you move to your new house can save you from a ton of stress and headaches. Check online reviews and ask your new neighbors for the contact information of a good plumber who is close to your new home. Once you decide on a good one, add their number to your list!
Since you’ve likely already contacted your new utility company for your new bill or service agreement, you should have their number to easily add to your list of phone numbers. This is an important number in case you have an issue such as a power outage blackout!
While you’re asking new neighbors for their plumbing recommendations, don’t forget to ask about a good babysitter in the area! Since a babysitter is taking on the task of watching your little ones, you’re going to want a well-vetted individual who you feel comfortable with. Add their number to your list so that next time something comes up you won’t have to scramble on this front!
Last but not least, you’re gonna need the numbers of some good take-out restaurants! Especially while your kitchen supplies are in the midst of being unpacked, your family and stomach will thank you for being prepared for the barren kitchen drawers and refrigerator.
From us to you at the Brandon and Lana Team, we wish you all the organization and preparation in the world during your moving adventure. Make sure to check us out at Brandon and Lana dot com for new Colorado listings!
