Gratitude in Your Life

Gratitude in Your Life

Summer has simmered down to a cooling point and Autumn is fast on our heels here in the mile-high state! It’s around this time of the year that home sellers and homebuyers cool down their real estate anxieties in favor of the currents of life. In other words, it’s time to put some focus on the role of gratitude in your life. Consciously expressing gratitude in your everyday life will bring prosperity, focus, success, and relaxation.

Here are some ways that you can bring gratitude to the forefront of your mind on a daily basis:

1. Taking mental pictures!

Mental photography is a great way to pull yourself away from your anxieties of life and bring you into the present moment. Taking a mental photo is simple. Just relax, breathe, and focus on the scene that you want to photograph to memory. Think of all of the details of the scene you’re viewing. If you want to commit a mountain scene to memory on the best hike of the year then remember the textures of the foliage, the smell of the air, and the colors of the landscape. These tactics bring you into the moment and will help calm you and ease your mind for greater focus in other areas of your life.

2. Surely you’ve heard this one before: WRITE. IT. DOWN.

It’s been said one million times before but it’s because it works! Set an alarm on your phone once a day to take two minutes to open your notes app and tap down some bullet points of what you are grateful for today. It can be as simple as the bag of chips that you received with your lunch order, the comfortable chair you have at your work desk, or your family. Soon enough, you’ll be opening your phone of your own volition to tap down more and more things that you want to remind yourself of your gratitude for. Please note that replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts will propel you forward with your goals in a way you likely never thought possible.

3. Ask others what they are grateful for!

Surprisingly, this is one of the BEST ways to see your own gratitude. Asking others to describe what they are grateful for and prompting discussions on gratitude will create a concrete experience that you will recall for days or weeks after the interaction. Teamwork and conversation are statistically shown to create stronger and more influential memories than work that an individual enacts on their own. Ask questions like: “What are you grateful for?” “Who are you grateful for?” “If you were on a deserted island with none of your current personal belongings, what would be the top three things that you would have gratitude for in that situation?” Get creative! Have a fun and silly conversation!

Gratitude is one of the best parts of life.

You don’t need to spend any resources to be grateful and show your gratitude to yourself, to others, and to the world. Expressing gratitude on a daily basis will clear your mind by bringing you into the present and therefore excel your goals into their finish lines. Your relationships will benefit from your expressions of gratitude because your friends and family will be able to feel your gratitude for them if it is in the forefront of your mind. Any career goals you may have will also benefit from daily gratitude expression because you will no longer be desperate to achieve things that you do not have. In a perfectly grateful world, you will be satisfied with what you DO have and therefore not in a frenzied and panicked state trying to claw your way to things you wish you had.
